عنْ عائشةَ رضي اللَّه عنْها، أَنَّ رسول اللَّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم كان إِذَا أَخَذَ مضْجعَهُ نَفَثَ في يدَيْهِ، وَقَرَأَ بالْمُعَوِّذاتِ ومَسح بِهمَا جَسَدَهُ، متفقٌ عليه. وفي رواية لهما: أَنَّ النبيَّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم كَانَ إِذَا أَوى إِلى فِرَاشِهِ كُلَّ لَيْلةٍ جمَع كَفَّيْهِ ثُمَّ نفَثَ فيهما فَقَرأَ فِيهما: قُلْ هُوَ اللّهُ أَحَدٌ، وقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِرَبِّ الفلَقِ، وَقُلْ أَعُوذُ بِربِّ النَّاسِ، ثُمَّ مَسَحَ بِهِمَا ما اسْتطاعَ مِن جسَدِهِ، يبْدَأُ بِهما عَلَى رَأْسِهِ وَوجهِهِ، وما أَقبلَ مِنْ جَسَدِهِ، يَفْعَلُ ذلكَ ثَلاثَ مرَّات متفقٌ عليه.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he took to his bed, would blow gently into his hands, recite the suras of refuge (al-Mu'awwidhat), and wipe his body with them. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In a narration by both of them: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), when he went to his bed every night, would cup his hands together, then blow into them and recite into them 'Say: He is Allah, the One,' 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,' and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.' Then he would wipe with them as much of his body as he could, beginning with his head, his face, and the front of his body. He would do that three times. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

نفثَ: هو نَفخٌ لَطِيفٌ بِلا رِيقٍ. بالمعوذات: أي قل هو اللّهُ أحد، وقل أعوذ برب الفلق، وقل أعوذ برب الناس، وأُطلق على الثلاثة اسم المعوذات من باب التغليب.
"Blew" (nafatha): a gentle blowing without saliva. "The suras of refuge" (al-Mu'awwidhat): that is, 'Say: He is Allah, the One,' 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the daybreak,' and 'Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind'; the name al-Mu'awwidhat is applied to all three by way of predominance.
