عَنْ حُذيْفَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ كَانَ إِذا أَرَادَ أَنْ يَرْقُدَ وَضَعَ يَدَهُ اليُمْنَى تَحْتَ خَدِّهِ ثُمَّ يقُولُ: «اللَّهُمَّ، قِنِي عَذَابَكَ يَوْمَ تَبْعَثُ عِبَادَكَ» رَوَاهُ التِّرْمِذِيُّ وقَالَ: حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ. وَرَوَاهُ أَبُو دَاوُودَ مِنْ رِوَايَةِ حفْصَةَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهَا، وَفيهِ: أَنَّهُ كَانَ يقُولُهُ ثَلاثَ مَرَّاتٍ.
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when he wished to sleep, would place his right hand under his cheek and then say: "O Allah, protect me from Your punishment on the Day You resurrect Your servants." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan hadith. Abu Dawud also reported it, in the narration of Hafsah (may Allah be pleased with her), and in it: he used to say it three times.

استحباب هذا الدعاء عند النوم. بيان خضوع النّبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم لمولاه، وأداؤه لحقه في دوام التذكر والإجلال. تنبيه النّبيّ للأمة أن لا يأمنوا عذاب اللّه، أو يتجاهلوا تقصيرهم نحوه، أو يغفلوا عن الشيطان ووسوسته لهم بالشر.
The recommendation of this supplication at the time of sleep. A demonstration of the Prophet's submission (peace and blessings be upon him) to his Master, and his fulfillment of His right through constant remembrance and reverence. The Prophet's alerting of the community not to feel secure from Allah's punishment, nor to disregard their shortcomings toward Him, nor to be heedless of Satan and his whispering of evil to them.
