عن ابن مسعودٍ رضي اللَّه عنهُ قال: قال رسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «لَيْس المؤمِنُ بِالطَّعَّانِ، ولا اللَّعَّانِ ولا الفَاحِشِ، ولا البذِيِّ» رواه الترمذي وقالَ: حديثٌ حسنٌ.
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The believer is not a slanderer, nor a curser, nor coarse, nor obscene." Reported by al-Tirmidhi, who said: a hasan (good) hadith.
الشرح · explanation
ليس المؤمن: أي الكامل الإيمان. بالطعان: الذي يقع في أعراض الناس بالذم والغيبة. اللعان: كثير اللعن. الفاحش: ذو الفحش في كلامه وفعله، يشتم الناس ويطعن في أنسابهم. البذي: السفيه الفاحش في منطقه، وإن كان كلامه صدقًا.
"The believer is not": that is, the one perfect in faith. "a slanderer" (al-ta''an): one who assails people's honor with censure and backbiting. "a curser" (al-la''an): one who curses frequently. "coarse" (al-fahish): one foul in his speech and conduct, who insults people and disparages their lineages. "obscene" (al-badhi): the foul-mouthed, indecent in his speech, even if what he says is true.
