Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the most false of speech. Do not pry, do not spy, do not compete wrongfully, do not envy one another, do not hate one another, and do not turn your backs on one another; and be, O servants of Allah, brothers, as He has commanded you. The Muslim is the brother of the Muslim: he does not wrong him, nor forsake him, nor despise him. Piety is here, piety is here, piety is here"—and he pointed to his chest—"It is enough evil for a person to despise his Muslim brother. The whole of the Muslim is inviolable to another Muslim: his blood, his honor, and his property. Indeed, Allah does not look at your bodies, nor at your forms, but rather He looks at your hearts and your deeds." In a narration: "Do not envy one another, do not hate one another, do not pry, do not spy, do not outbid one another deceptively, and be, O servants of Allah, brothers." In a narration: "Do not sever ties, do not turn your backs on one another, do not hate one another, do not envy one another, and be, O servants of Allah, brothers." In a narration: "Do not forsake one another, and let none of you sell against the sale of another." Reported by Muslim with all these narrations, and al-Bukhari reported most of them.
"Beware of suspicion": that is, be on your guard against suspicion, meaning baseless accusation, such as what falls into the heart without any evidence. "do not pry" (la tahassasu): prying is tracking down faults and hidden shortcomings. "do not compete" (la tanafasu): that is, do not desire to seize exclusively another's right and crowd in to obtain it. "nor forsake him" (la yakhdhuluhu): that is, abandon supporting and aiding him. "nor despise him" (la yahqiruhu): that is, demean him and neglect his standing. "it is enough" (bihasb): sufficient. "do not forsake one another" (la tahajaru): that is, let none of you forsake another. "do not outbid one another deceptively" (la tanajashu): najash is raising the price of a commodity without intending to buy it, but only to lure and deceive another; and it is among the causes of hatred.
