عَنْ أَبِي أَيُّوبَ رَضِيَ اللّهُ عَنْهُ: أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلَّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ قَالَ: «لا يَحِلُّ لِمُسْلِمٍ أَنْ يَهْجُرَ أَخَاهُ فَوْقَ ثَلاثِ لَيَالٍ، يَلْتَقِيَانِ، فَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا وَيُعْرِضُ هَذَا، وَخَيْرُهُمَا الَّذِي يَبْدَأُ بِالسَّلامِ» مُتَّفَقٌ عَلَيْهِ.
Abu Ayyub (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "It is not lawful for a Muslim to shun his brother for more than three nights, such that they meet and this one turns away and that one turns away; and the better of them is the one who begins with the greeting (salam)." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
لا يحل: لا يجوز. يهجر أخاه: أي يعتزل أخاه المسلم ويقاطعه دون عذر. يعرض هذا: أي يتنحى ويصرف وجهه عنه.
"it is not lawful": it is not permissible. "shun his brother": that is, he withdraws from his Muslim brother and cuts him off without an excuse. "this one turns away": that is, he draws aside and averts his face from him.

التعبير في الحديث بالأخوة إشارة واضحة إلى الحثّ على التواصل والتحذير من الهجران والتقاطع. خير المتقاطعين الذي يبدأ أخاه بالسلام والكلام ويواصل الأخوة ويزيل أسباب التقاطع. تحريم الهجران بين المسلمين أكثر من ثلاثة أيام، والحكمة من تحديد هذه المدة أنّها كافية لإحلال التفكير وإبعاد العاطفة وتناسي الأخطاء ودفن الأحقاد. المسلم يتناسى الأحقاد ويسرع إلى الصلح ليفوز بالفضل، والسلام في الإسلام رمز المحبة والإخاء.
The use of "brotherhood" in the hadith is a clear indication of the encouragement to maintain ties and the warning against shunning and mutual severance. The better of two who have severed ties is the one who begins with greeting and speaking to his brother, maintains the brotherhood, and removes the causes of severance. The prohibition of shunning between Muslims for more than three days; the wisdom in setting this period is that it is sufficient to allow reflection, calm the emotions, forget the mistakes, and bury the grudges. The Muslim forgets grudges and hastens to reconciliation to win the merit; the greeting (salam) in Islam is a symbol of love and brotherhood.
