عنْ أبي سَعيدٍ رضي اللّه عنْهُ أنَّ رسُول اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «لا يَنْظُرُ الرَّجُلُ إلى عوْرةِ الرَّجُلِ، وَلا المَرْأةُ إلى عوْرَةِ المَرْأةِ، ولا يُفْضِي الرَّجُلُ إلى الرَّجُلِ في ثوبٍ واحِدٍ، ولا تُفْضِي المَرْأةُ إلى المَرْأةِ في الثَّوْبِ الواحِدِ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Sa'id (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "A man should not look at the private parts ('awrah) of another man, nor a woman at the private parts of another woman; nor should a man lie with another man under a single garment, nor a woman lie with another woman under a single garment." لا يفضي: لا يتقارب. في ثوب واحد: أي لا يضطجعان متجرّدَين تحت غطاء واحد.
"Should not lie [with] (la yufdi)": should not come into [close bodily] contact. "Under a single garment": that is, the two should not lie down unclothed beneath a single cover.

Islam's keenness on the purity of society. The prohibition of looking at private parts, even between members of the same sex, let alone the opposite sex. The prohibition of looking at a man's 'awrah, which is from his navel to below his knee. The prohibition of looking at a woman's 'awrah in relation to [another] woman and her mahrams, which is from her navel to below her knee; but if desire is present, then looking is forbidden even at other than the 'awrah, such as the chest and back; and as for her 'awrah in relation to a non-mahram man, her entire body is 'awrah except the face and the two hands, provided temptation is safely absent. The prohibition of a man lying down with [another] man unclothed under a single garment, and likewise a woman with [another] woman.
