Uqbah ibn Amir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Beware of entering upon women." A man from the Ansar said: "O Messenger of Allah, what do you say of the in-law (al-hamw)?" He said: "The in-law is death." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

Islam's keenness on the soundness of the Muslim society, closing the door to evil, and preventing the occurrence of adultery and its incitements. Barring the husband's relatives who are not her mahrams from being alone with the woman is [emphasized] more than others, because the evil expected from him and the temptation are greater, given his ability to reach the woman and be alone [with her] without anyone objecting, unlike a stranger. Being alone with in-laws leads to temptation and ruin; he likened it to the ruin of death, so the statement was expressed in the manner of stern emphasis.
