عَنِ النُّعْمانِ بنِ بشيرٍ رضي اللّه عنْهُمَا قَالَ: أُغْمِي على عبْدِ اللّه بنِ رَواحَةَ رضي اللّه عنْهُ، فَجَعَلَتْ أُخْتُهُ تبكي، وتَقُولُ: واجبلاهُ، واكذَا، واكَذَا: تُعدِّدُ علَيْهِ. فقَال حِينَ أفَاقَ: ما قُلْتِ شيْئًا إلّا قِيل لي: أنْتَ كَذٰلِكَ؟، رواهُ البُخَارِي.
On the authority of al-Numan ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: Abdullah ibn Rawahah (may Allah be pleased with him) fell unconscious, and his sister began to weep, saying: "O my mountain! O such-and-such! O such-and-such!" enumerating his qualities. When he came to, he said: "You said nothing but it was said to me: Are you like that?" Reported by al-Bukhari.
الشرح · explanation
تعدد عليه: تذكر شمائله على طريقة أهل الجاهلية. شيئًا: أي من الصفات التي ذكرتها. قيل لي: الظاهر أنّ القائل الملائكة.
"Enumerating over him": she mentions his good qualities in the manner of the people of the Days of Ignorance. "Anything": that is, of the qualities she mentioned. "It was said to me": apparently the speakers were the angels.

النهي عن الندب على الميت وغيره، وخاصة إذا كان بصفات ليست في المندوب، وهو إساءة له، لأنّه يقرع على ذلك ويلام عليه.
The prohibition of lamenting the dead and others, especially with qualities not found in the one lamented, for that is a wrong against him, since he is rebuked and blamed for it.
