On the authority of Qabisah ibn al-Mukhariq (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Augury from birds (al-iyafah), evil omens (al-tiyarah), and divination by lines (al-tarq) are of al-jibt." Reported by Abu Dawud with a hasan (good) chain.
Al-iyafah: driving away birds to draw a bad or good omen from their names and calls. Al-tiyarah: pessimism, taking evil omens. Al-tarq: it is divining by striking with pebbles; it has been explained as lines drawn in the earth; it is as though from al-tariq (the road), for one "strikes" it when he travels upon it. Al-jibt: a word applied to the idol, the soothsayer, the sorcerer, sorcery, and the like.

That these three matters, according to the meaning given for them, are false, and are among the kinds of soothsaying that the people of the Days of Ignorance used to practice. Islam negated them, invalidated them, and forbade them, and informed that they have no effect in bringing benefit or repelling harm, and established that practicing them and believing in them is a kind of polytheism and misguidance.
