عنِ ابْنِ عبَّاسٍ رضي اللّه عنْهُما قَالَ: قَال رَسُولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «من اقْتَبَسَ عِلْمًا مِنَ النُّجُومِ، اقْتَبسَ شُعْبَةً مِنَ السِّحْرِ زَادَ ما زَاد» رَوَاهُ أبو داود بإسناد صحيح.
On the authority of Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever acquires knowledge from the stars has acquired a branch of sorcery; the more he acquires, the more he acquires." Reported by Abu Dawud with a sahih (authentic) chain.

اقتبس: استفاد. علمًا من النّجوم: أي من علم تأثيرها شعبة: قطعة وخصلة. السحر: مختص بكل أمر يخفى سببه ويتخيل على غير حقيقته ويجري مجرى التمويه والخداع، وهو رقى وعُقد ونحو ذلك مما يؤثر في الأبدان والقلوب. زاد ما زاد: زاد من السحر ما زاد من علم النجوم.
"Acquires": derives, benefits from. "Knowledge from the stars": that is, of their claimed influence. "A branch": a portion and a strand. Sorcery (al-sihr): it is specific to every matter whose cause is hidden and which is imagined to be other than its reality, and which proceeds by way of deception and trickery; it is incantations, knots, and the like, of what affects bodies and hearts. "The more he acquires, the more he acquires": he acquires as much of sorcery as he acquires of the knowledge of the stars.

النهي عن التنجيم على اختلاف أشكاله وعن تصديق المنجمين. أنّ التنجيم نوع من السحر، وهو من الكبائر التي تذكر مع الشرك باللّه تعالى وليس المراد بعلم النجوم علم الفلك. علم النجوم المنهي عنه هو ما يدعيه أهل التنجيم من علم الكوائن والحوادث التي تقع وستقع في مستقبل الزمان، مما يزعمون إدراكه من الكواكب في مجاريها واجتماعها وافتراقها.
The prohibition of astrology in its various forms, and of believing astrologers. That astrology is a kind of sorcery, and it is among the major sins mentioned alongside associating partners with Allah the Exalted; and what is meant by "the science of the stars" here is not astronomy. The forbidden science of the stars is what the astrologers claim of knowing the events and occurrences that happen and will happen in future time, which they allege to perceive from the planets in their courses, their conjunction, and their separation.
