عَن ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رضي اللّه عنْهُمَا قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يَقُولُ: «كُلُّ مُصَوِّرٍ في النَّارِ يُجْعَلُ لَهُ بِكُلِّ صُورَةٍ صَوَّرَهَا نَفْسٌ فَيُعَذِّبُهُ في جهَنَّم» قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: فَإنْ كُنْتَ لا بُدَّ فَاعِلًا، فَاصْنَعِ الشَّجَرَ وَما لا رُوح فِيهِ. متفقٌ عليه.
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Every image-maker is in the Fire; for every image he made, a soul will be made for it, and it will punish him in Hell." Ibn Abbas said: If you must do it, then make trees and whatever has no soul in it. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

بكل صورة: أي بسببها أو بدلها. فاصنع: أي صوّر.
"For every image": that is, because of it or in place of it. "Then make": that is, form images.

أنّ التصوير من الكبائر يعذب فاعله عذابًا شديدًا يوم القيامة على قدر ما صنع من صور. من استحلّ التصوير وهو يعلم تحريمه والإجماع عليه فهو مخلد في النار، ومن لم يكن كذلك كان مكثه في النار طويلًا. يجوز صنع الصور والتماثيل لشجر أو جبل أو نهر وغير ذلك مما لا روح له.
Image-making is among the major sins; its doer is punished severely on the Day of Resurrection in accordance with the images he made. Whoever deems image-making lawful while knowing its prohibition and the consensus upon it abides forever in the Fire; and whoever is not like that, his stay in the Fire will be long. It is permissible to make images and figures of trees, mountains, rivers, and other things that have no soul.
