عَنْ أبي هُرَيْرَةَ رضِيَ اللّه عنْهُ قَالَ: قال رسُولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «لا تَصْحَبُ المَلائِكَةُ رُفْقَةً فيهَا كَلْبٌ أوْ جَرَسٌ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The angels do not accompany a company of travelers in which there is a dog or a bell." Reported by Muslim.

لا تصحب: لا ترافق الملائكة غير الحفظة، وهم ملائكة الرحمة والاستغفار والحفظ. رفقة: جماعة ترافقهم في سفرك. فيها كلب: معهم كلب غير مأذون باتخاذه.
"Do not accompany": the angels, other than the recording angels, do not accompany them; and they are the angels of mercy, of seeking forgiveness, and of protection. "Company": a group that accompanies you on your journey. "In which there is a dog": with them a dog that is not permitted to be kept.

كراهة استصحاب الكلب غير المأذون في اتخاذه، كأن يكون لغير الصيد والحراسة. الحثّ على ذكر اللّه استحضارًا للملائكة، والابتعاد عمّا ينفرها.
The dislike of taking along a dog that is not permitted to be kept, such as one that is for other than hunting and guarding. Encouragement to remember Allah so as to draw the presence of the angels, and to keep away from whatever repels them.
