عَنْ عائِشَةَ رضي اللّه عنْهَا أنَّ رسُولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم رَأى في جِدَارِ الْقِبْلَةِ مُخَاطًا، أوْ بُزَاقًا، أوْ نُخَامةً، فَحكَّه. متفقٌ عليه.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) saw mucus, or spittle, or phlegm on the wall of the qiblah, and he scraped it off. Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).
الشرح · explanation
النخامة: ما يخرج من الصدر وقد تطلق على ما يخرج من الأنف. فحكّه: أزاله بالحكّ.
"Phlegm (al-nukhamah)": what comes up from the chest; it may also be applied to what comes from the nose. "He scraped it off (fa-hakkahu)": he removed it by scraping.
