Muʿadh ibn Anas al-Juhani (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade sitting wrapped up (al-hibwah) on Friday while the imam is delivering the sermon. Reported by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi, who both said: a hasan (good) hadith.
"Al-hibwah": al-ihtiba' is to sit on one's buttocks and draw one's thighs and shins up against the belly with one's arms in order to lean back for support.

That al-hibwah is disliked, although there is some mild weakness (lin) in its chain of narration. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade al-hibwah while the imam is delivering the Friday sermon for two reasons: The first: this posture may bring on drowsiness, so that he sleeps through listening to the sermon. The second: if he moves, his private parts (ʿawrah) may become exposed, because most people's dress in the past was the izar (waist-wrapper) and the rida' (upper garment), so if he moves or shifts his private parts might show. But if that is safely avoided, there is no harm in it; for when a prohibition is due to a rational cause and the cause is gone, the prohibition is lifted.
