عنْ بُريْدة رضِي اللّه عنهُ أَنَّ رسُول اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قال: «من حلَف بِالأَمانَةِ فليْس مِنّا». حدِيثٌ صحيحٌ، رواهُ أَبُو داود بإِسنادٍ صحِيحٍ.
Buraydah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever swears by the trust (amanah) is not one of us." A sahih (authentic) hadith, reported by Abu Dawud with an authentic chain.
الشرح · explanation
الأمانة: قيل أراد بالأمانة الفرائض أي لا تحلفوا بالصلاة والحج والصوم ونحوها. فليس منّا: أي من أهل سنّتنا.
"The trust (al-amanah)": it is said that what is meant by al-amanah is the obligatory duties, i.e., do not swear by the prayer, the Hajj, the fasting, and the like. "Is not one of us (fa-laysa minna)": that is, not among the people of our Sunnah.

تحريم الحلف بالأمانة، واليمين لا تنعقد إلّا باللّه تعالى أو بصفاته وليست منها الأمانة، وإنّما هي أمر من أمره وفرض من فروضه فنهوا عنه، لما يوهمه الحلف بها من مساواتها لأسماء اللّه تعالى.
The prohibition of swearing by the trust. An oath is valid only by Allah the Exalted or by His attributes, and the trust is not among them; rather it is one of His commands and one of His obligations, so they were forbidden [to swear by] it, because swearing by it gives the false impression that it is on a par with the names of Allah the Exalted.
