Abu Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Beware of excessive swearing in selling, for it makes [goods] sell, then it wipes out [the blessing]." Reported by Muslim.
"it wipes out" (yamhaq): it removes the blessing of the provision obtained from his sale through swearing.
Swearing in transactions such as selling, even if truthful, is disliked (makruh); but with lying it is forbidden (haram), and it is a major sin and a deliberate false oath (yamin ghamus) that plunges its maker into the Fire.
