عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رَضِيَ اللّه عَنْهُ أَنَّ النَّبِيَّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم قَالَ: «هَلَكَ المُتَنَطِّعُون» قَالَهَا ثَلاثًا. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِم.
Ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The over-exacting extremists have perished." He said it three times. Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
المتنطعون: هم المتعمقون المتكلفون الداخلون فيما لا يعنيهم، الخائضون فيما لا تبلغه عقولهم، وقيل: هم المُبَالِغُونَ في الأَمُورِ.
"The over-exacting extremists (al-mutanatti'un)": they are those who delve too deeply and burden themselves, entering into what does not concern them and plunging into what their minds cannot grasp. It is also said: they are those who go to excess in matters.
