عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضِيَ اللّه عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: سأَلْتُ رَسُولَ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم عَنِ الالْتِفَاتِ في الصَّلاةِ فَقَالَ: «هُوَ اخْتِلاسٌ يَخْتَلِسُهُ الشَّيْطَانُ مِنْ صَلاةِ الْعَبْدِ» رواهُ البُخَاري.
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported: I asked the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) about turning aside during prayer, and he said: "It is a snatching by which Satan steals from the servant's prayer." Reported by al-Bukhari.

عن الالتفات: أي سألته عن حكمة النهي عنه. اختلاس: هو الأخذ بسرعة على غفلة.
"About turning aside": that is, I asked him about the wisdom behind its prohibition. "A snatching (ikhtilas)": taking something swiftly while [its owner is] heedless.
