عَنْ جَرِيرٍ رَضِيَ اللّه عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «أَيُّمَا عَبْدٍ أَبَقَ، فَقَدْ بَرِئَتْ مِنْهُ الذِّمَّةُ» رواه مسلم.
Jarir (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whichever slave runs away, the covenant of protection is absolved of him." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
عبد: رقيق مملوك. أبق: هرب من خدمة مالكه. برئت منه الذمة: أي ذمة الإسلام.
"Slave (abd)": an owned bondsman. "Runs away (abaqa)": flees from the service of his owner. "The covenant of protection is absolved of him": that is, the covenant of Islam.
