عَنْ أبي هُريْرةَ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَال رَسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «إنَّ اللّه تَعَالى يَرضى لَكُمْ ثلاثًا، وَيَكْرَه لَكُمْ ثَلاثًا: فَيَرضى لَكُمْ أنْ تَعْبُدوه، وَلا تُشركُوا بِهِ شَيْئًا، وَأنْ تَعْتَصِموا بِحَبْلِ اللّهِ جَمِيعًا وَلا تَفَرَّقُوا، ويَكْرهُ لَكُمْ: قِيلَ وَقَالَ، وَكَثْرَةَ السُّؤالِ، وإضَاعَةَ المَالِ» رواه مسلم.
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Allah, the Exalted, is pleased with three things for you and dislikes three things for you. He is pleased for you that you worship Him and associate nothing with Him, and that you hold fast, all together, to the rope of Allah and do not become divided. And He dislikes for you: idle talk (qil wa qal), asking too many questions, and squandering wealth." Reported by Muslim.

وأن تعتصموا: أن تتمسكوا. بحبل اللّه: كناية عن التمسك بالدين وبالجماعة. قيل وقال: المراد الكلام فيما لا يفيد. كثرة السؤال: أي عمّا لا تحتاجون إليه على وجه التعنت والجدل. إضاعة المال: تبذيره في الطرق الحرام لأن اللّه تعالى جعل المال نظام أمر المعاش وقوام الحياة.
"That you hold fast (ta'tasimu)": that you cling firmly. "To the rope of Allah": a metaphor for holding fast to the religion and to the united community. "Qil wa qal (idle talk)": what is meant is speech about that which brings no benefit. "Asking too many questions": that is, about what you have no need of, in a manner of contentiousness and disputation. "Squandering wealth": wasting it in forbidden ways, for Allah, the Exalted, made wealth the order of livelihood and the mainstay of life.

الحض على إخلاص العبادة للّه تعالى وحده دون شريك والتمسك بأحكام الدين ووحدة جماعة المسلمين. ترك الكلام فيما لا يغني ولا يفيد، وترك كثرة الأسئلة فيما لا حاجة إليها ولا فائدة منها. الابتعاد عن تبديد المال وإنفاقه في غير الطرق المشروعة.
Encouragement to devote worship sincerely to Allah, the Exalted, alone without any partner, and to hold fast to the rulings of the religion and to the unity of the Muslim community. Abandoning speech about what is of no avail or benefit, and abandoning excessive questioning about matters of no need or benefit. Keeping away from squandering wealth and spending it in unlawful ways.
