عنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ قالَ: إنَّ النبيَّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم نَهَانَا عَنِ الحَرِيرِ، والدِّيباجِ، وَالشُّرْب في آنِيَةِ الذَّهَبِ وَالْفِضَّةِ، وقال: «هُنَّ لهُمْ في الدُّنْيَا وَهِيَ لَكُمْ في الآخِرةِ» متفقٌ عليهِ. وفي روايةٍ في الصَّحِيحَيْنِ عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ: سَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم يَقُولُ: «لا تَلْبِسُوا الحَرِيرَ وَلا الدِّيبَاجَ، ولا تَشْرَبُوا في آنيَةِ الذَّهَبِ والْفِضَّةِ وَلا تَأْكُلُوا في صِحَافِهَا»
Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade us from silk, brocade, and drinking from vessels of gold and silver, and he said: "They are for them (the disbelievers) in this world and for you in the Hereafter." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In a narration in the two Sahihs from Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him): I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: "Do not wear silk or brocade, and do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, nor eat from their platters."

الديباج: نوع من الحرير، وقيل: هو ما غلظ منه، وقيل: ثوب سداه ولحمته من الحرير. لهم: أي للكفار. صحاف: هي إناء للأكل يشبع خمسة أشخاص.
"Brocade" (dibaj): a type of silk; it is said to be the thick kind of it; and it is said to be a garment whose warp and weft are both of silk. "For them": that is, for the disbelievers. "Platters" (sihaf): eating vessels large enough to satisfy five people.

تحريم لبس الحرير لأنّه يشبه لباس بعض الكفار. حرمة استعمال آنية الذهب والفضّة في طعام أو شرب أو غير ذلك من أنواع الاستعمال، لما في ذلك من الخيلاء والكبر، وكذلك اتخاذها للتزيين أو غيره، لأنّ ما حرم استعماله حرم اتخاذه. أنّ استعمالها من الكبائر لورود الوعيد الشديد على ذلك. استثنى العلماء من ذلك التزيين بالذهب والفضة للنساء فقط، واستعمال خاتم الفضة للرجال.
The prohibition of wearing silk, because it resembles the dress of some of the disbelievers. The prohibition of using vessels of gold and silver for food, drink, or any other purpose, because of the vainglory and arrogance in that; and likewise the prohibition of keeping them for adornment or otherwise, because whatever is forbidden to use is forbidden to keep. That using them is among the major sins, owing to the severe warning that has come regarding it. The scholars excepted from this the adornment with gold and silver for women only, and the use of a silver ring for men.
