عنْ عبدِ اللّه بنِ عَمْرو بن العاص رضي اللّه عَنْهُمَا قالَ: رأَى النّبيّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم عَلَيَّ ثَوْبَيْنِ مُعَصْفَرين فَقَال: «أُمُّكَ أَمَرَتْكَ بهٰذا؟» قلتُ: أغْسِلُهُمَا؟ قال: «بلْ أحْرِقْهُما» وفي روايةٍ، فقال: «إنَّ هذا منْ ثيَابِ الكُفَّار فَلا تَلْبسْهَا» رواه مسلم.
Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both) reported: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw upon me two garments dyed with safflower, so he said: "Did your mother command you with this?" I said: Shall I wash them? He said: "Rather, burn them." In another narration, he said: "These are among the garments of the disbelievers, so do not wear them." Reported by Muslim.

معصفرين: مصبوغين بالعصفر، والعصفر نبت أصفر معروف.
"Dyed with safflower" (muasfarayn): dyed with usfur (safflower), which is a well-known yellow plant.

النهي عن لبس الثياب المصبوغة بالزعفران أو العصفر للرجال وهذا النهي حمله بعض العلماء على الحرمة وبعضهم خصه بالكراهة. علة النهي إنّما هي كون هذه الثياب مما يتزين بها النساء ولا يجوز التشبه بالنساء، وكونها مما اعتاد لبسه الكفار ولا يجوز التشبه بهم وتقليدهم. أمره صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم بحرق الثوبين عقوبةً وتغليظًا لزجره وزجر غيره عن مثل هذا الفعل. المحافظة على تميّز المسلم في لباسه الشرعي والابتعاد عن محاكاة الكفار وتقليدهم.
The prohibition of men wearing garments dyed with saffron or safflower; some scholars took this prohibition to indicate unlawfulness, while others restricted it to dislikedness. The reason for the prohibition is that such garments are among what women adorn themselves with, and it is not permissible to imitate women; and that they are among what the disbelievers were accustomed to wear, and it is not permissible to imitate or emulate them. His command (peace and blessings be upon him) to burn the two garments was by way of punishment and severity, to deter him and others from such an act. Preserving the Muslim's distinctiveness in his Islamically prescribed dress, and keeping away from mimicking and emulating the disbelievers.
