عَنِ ابْنِ مَسْعُودٍ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ قَالَ: قَالَ النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «أوَّلُ مَا يُقْضَى بَيْنَ النَّاسِ يوْمَ الْقِيَامةِ في الدِّمَاءِ» مُتَّفَقٌ علَيْهِ.
Ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first matter to be judged among people on the Day of Resurrection will be concerning bloodshed." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim).

تعظيم حرمة النفس وخطر العدوان عليها، فإنّ أول ما يحاسب اللّه العباد يوم القيامة على ما ارتكبوه من إراقة الدماء وقتل النفس بغير حق. هذا الحديث لا ينافي قوله صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم: "أول ما يحاسب به العبد يوم القيامة الصلاة" لأنّ الأول محمول على حقوق العباد، والثاني يتعلق بحق اللّه تعالى وعبادته.
The magnification of the sanctity of the soul and the gravity of transgressing against it, for the first thing for which Allah will hold His servants to account on the Day of Resurrection is the bloodshed and unlawful killing of souls they committed. This hadith does not contradict his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): "The first thing for which the servant will be held to account on the Day of Resurrection is the prayer," because the first is understood as concerning the rights of fellow servants, while the second pertains to the right of Allah the Exalted and His worship.
