عَنْ عَائِشَةَ رضي اللّه عَنْهَا قَالَتْ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «مَنْ أحَبَّ لِقاءَ اللّهِ أحبَّ اللّه لِقَاءَهُ، وَمنْ كَرِهَ لِقاءَ اللّه كَرِهَ اللّه لِقَاءَهُ» فَقُلْتُ: يَا رسُولَ اللّه، أكَرَاهِيَةُ الموْتِ؟ فَكُلُّنَا نَكْرَهُ الموْتَ، قَالَ: «لَيْس كَذَلِكَ، وَلَكِنَّ المُؤمِنَ إذَا بُشِّر بِرَحْمَةِ اللّه وَرِضْوانِهِ وَجنَّتِهِ أحَبَّ لِقَاءَ اللّه، فَأَحَبَّ اللّه لِقَاءَهُ وإنَّ الْكَافِرَ إذَا بُشِّرَ بعَذابِ اللّه وَسَخَطِهِ، كَرِهَ لِقَاءَ اللّه، وَكَرِهَ اللّه لِقَاءَهُ». رواه مسلم .
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "Whoever loves to meet Allah, Allah loves to meet him; and whoever hates to meet Allah, Allah hates to meet him." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, is it the dislike of death? For all of us dislike death." He said: "It is not so. Rather, when the believer is given glad tidings of Allah's mercy, His pleasure, and His Paradise, he loves to meet Allah, and so Allah loves to meet him. And when the disbeliever is given tidings of Allah's punishment and His wrath, he hates to meet Allah, and so Allah hates to meet him." Reported by Muslim.

محبَّةُ اللِّقاءِ: هي إيثارُ العبدِ الآخرةَ على الدُّنيا، وعدمُ حُبِّ طولِ القيامِ في الدُّنيا، والاستعدادُ لِلارتحالِ عنها، والمرادُ بِاللِّقاءِ: المصيرُ إلى الدَّارِ الآخرةِ وطلَبُ ما عند اللّهِ وليس الغرضُ به الموتَ. كره لقاء اللّه: أن الكافر يرى ما وعدَه ربُّه مِنَ العذابِ والنَّكالِ حقًّا أمامَ عينَيْه، فلا يكونُ شيءٌ أكرَهَ إليه مِن ذلك، فكرِهَ لقاءَ اللّهِ وكرهَ اللّهُ لِقاءَه.
"Loving the meeting (with Allah)": it is the servant's preferring the Hereafter over this world, his not loving to remain long in this world, and his readiness to depart from it. What is meant by "the meeting" is the passage to the abode of the Hereafter and the seeking of what is with Allah; death itself is not the intent. "Hating to meet Allah": the disbeliever sees the punishment and torment his Lord has promised him as a reality before his very eyes, so nothing is more hateful to him than that; thus he hates to meet Allah, and Allah hates to meet him.
