عَنْ أبي زَيْدٍ عمْرِو بنِ أخْطَبَ الأنْصَارِيِّ رضي اللّه عَنْهُ قَال: صلَّى بنا رَسُولُ اللّه صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم الْفَجْر، وَصعِدَ المِنْبَرَ، فَخَطَبنَا حَتَّى حَضَرَتِ الظُّهْرُ، فَنَزَل فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ صَعِدَ المِنْبَر فخطب حَتَّى حَضَرتِ العصْرُ، ثُمَّ نَزَل فَصَلَّى، ثُمَّ صعِد المنْبر حتى غَرَبتِ الشَّمْسُ، فَأخْبرنا مَا كان ومَا هُوَ كِائِنٌ، فَأَعْلَمُنَا أحْفَظُنَا. رواهُ مُسْلِمٌ.
Abu Zayd Amr ibn Akhtab al-Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) led us in the Fajr prayer, then ascended the pulpit and addressed us until the time of Zuhr came. He descended and prayed, then ascended the pulpit and addressed us until the time of Asr came. Then he descended and prayed, then ascended the pulpit until the sun set. He informed us of what had been and what will be, and the most knowledgeable among us is the one who best memorized it. Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
فخَطبَنا ووَعظَنا حتَّى حَضرتِ الظُّهرُ: أي صَلاةُ الظُّهرِ بدُخولِ وَقتِها. وَبِما هوَ كائنٌ: أي بما سَيكونُ وسَيحدُثُ. فأَعلَمُنا أَحفظُنا: أَعلمُنا هوَ أكثرُنا حفظًا لتلكَ الخُطبةِ.
"He addressed and admonished us until Zuhr came": that is, the Zuhr prayer, by the entering of its time. "And of what will be": that is, of what is to come and to happen. "The most knowledgeable among us": the most knowledgeable among us is the one who best memorized that address.

حرص الرسول صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم على تعليم أمّته كل ما هم بحاجة إليه من أمر دينهم ووعظهم بما كان قبلهم وتحذيرهم من شر ما هو قادم عليهم. أنّ أعلم الناس أحفظهم للعلم و أوعاهم لكتاب اللّه تعالى وسنّة نبيّه صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم.
The Messenger's (peace and blessings be upon him) keenness to teach his community everything they need of their religion, admonishing them with accounts of those before them and warning them of the evil to come upon them. That the most knowledgeable of people are those who best retain knowledge and most fully grasp the Book of Allah the Exalted and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
