عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ رَضِيَ اللّه عَنْهُمَا قَالَ: جاءَ إِبْرَاهِيمُ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم بِأُمِّ إِسْمَاعِيل وَبابنِهَا إِسْمَاعِيلَ وَهِي تُرْضِعُهُ حَتَّى وَضَعَهَا عِنْدَ الْبَيْتِ عِنْدَ دَوْحَةٍ فوْقَ زَمْزَمَ في أَعْلَى المسْجِدِ، وَلَيْسَ بمكَّةَ يَوْمَئِذٍ أَحَدٌ وَلَيْسَ بِهَا مَاءٌ، فَوضَعَهُمَا هُنَاكَ، وَوضَع عِنْدَهُمَا جِرَابًا فِيه تَمرٌ، وسِقَاء فيه مَاءٌ، ثُمَّ قَفى إِبْرَاهِيمُ مُنْطَلِقًا، فتَبِعتْهُ أُمُّ إِسْماعِيل فَقَالَتْ: يا إِبْراهِيمُ أَيْنَ تَذْهَبُ وتَتْرُكُنَا بهَذا الْوادِي ليْسَ فِيهِ أَنيسٌ ولا شَيءٌ؟ فَقَالَتْ لَهُ ذَلكَ مِرارًا، وجعل لا يلْتَفِتُ إِلَيْهَا، قَالَتْ لَه: آللّهُ أَمركَ بِهذَا؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، قَالَت: إِذًا لا يُضَيِّعُنا، ثُمَّ رجعتْ، فَانْطَلقَ إِبْراهِيمُ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم، حَتَّى إِذا كَانَ عِنْدَ الثَّنِيَّةِ حيْثُ لا يَروْنَهُ، اسْتَقْبل بِوجْههِ الْبيْتَ، ثُمَّ دعا بهَؤُلاءِ الدَّعواتِ، فَرفَعَ يدَيْه فقَالَ: رَّبَّنَا إِنِّي أَسْكَنْتُ مِنْ ذُرِّيَّتي بِوادٍ غَيْرِ ذِي زَرْعٍ حتَّى بلَغَ يشْكُرُونَ وجعلَتْ أُمُّ إِسْمَاعِيل تُرْضِعُ إِسْماعِيل، وتَشْربُ مِنْ ذَلِكَ المَاءِ، حتَّى إِذَا نَفِدَ ما في السِّقَاءِ عطشت وعَطِش ابْنُهَا، وجعلَتْ تَنْظُرُ إِلَيْهِ يتَلوَّى أَوْ قَالَ: يتَلَبَّطُ فَانْطَلَقَتْ كَراهِيةَ أَنْ تَنْظُر إِلَيْهِ، فَوجدتِ الصَّفَا أَقْرَبَ جبَلٍ في الأرْضِ يلِيهَا، فَقَامتْ علَيْهِ، ثُمَّ استَقبَلَتِ الْوادِيَ تَنْظُرُ هَلْ تَرى أَحدًا؟ فَلَمْ تَر أَحدًا، فهَبطَتْ مِنَ الصَّفَا حتَّى إِذَا بلَغَتِ الْوادِيَ، رفَعتْ طَرفَ دِرْعِهِا، ثُمَّ سَعتْ سعْي الإِنْسانِ المجْهُودِ حتَّى جاوزَتِ الْوَادِيَ، ثُمَّ أَتَتِ المرْوةَ، فقامتْ علَيْهَا، فنَظَرتْ هَلْ تَرى أَحَدًا؟ فَلَمْ تَر أَحَدًا، فَفَعَلَتْ ذَلِكَ سَبْع مرَّاتٍ،  قَال ابْنُ عبَّاسٍ رَضِي اللّه عنْهُمَا: قَال النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «فَذَلِكَ سعْيُ النَّاسِ بيْنَهُما»، فلَمَّا أَشْرفَتْ علَى المرْوةِ سَمِعـتْ صوتًا، فَقَالَتْ: صهْ  تُرِيدُ نَفْسهَا ثُمَّ تَسَمَّعَتْ، فَسمِعتْ أَيْضًا فَقَالتْ: قَدْ أَسْمَعْتَ إِنْ كَانَ عِنْدكَ غَواثٌ، فَإِذَا هِي بِالمَلَكِ عِنْد موْضِعِ زمزَم ، فَبحثَ بِعقِبِهِ، -أَوْ قَال بِجنَاحِهِ- حَتَّى ظَهَرَ الماءُ، فَجعلَتْ تُحوِّضُهُ وَتَقُولُ بِيدِهَا هٰكَذَا، وجعَلَتْ تَغْرِفُ المَاءَ في سِقَائِهَا وهُو يفُورُ بَعْدَ ما تَغْرفُ وفي روايةٍ: بِقَدرِ ما تَغْرِفُ، قَال ابْنُ عبَّاسٍ رضِيَ اللّه عَنْهُمَا: قالَ النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «رحِم اللّه أُمَّ إِسماعِيل لَوْ تَركْت زَمزَم  أَوْ قَالَ: لوْ لَمْ تَغْرِفْ مِنَ المَاءِ، لَكَانَتْ زَمْزَمُ عيْنًا معِينًا» قَال فَشَرِبتْ، وَأَرْضَعَتْ وَلَدهَا، فَقَال لَهَا الملَكُ: لا تَخَافُوا الضَّيْعَة فَإِنَّ هَهُنَا بَيْتًا للّهِ يبنيه هَذَا الْغُلاَمُ وأَبُوهُ، وإِنَّ اللّه لا يُضيِّعُ أَهْلَهُ، وَكَانَ الْبيْتُ مُرْتَفِعًا مِنَ الأَرْضِ كَالرَّابِيةِ تأْتِيهِ السُّيُولُ، فتَأْخُذُ عنْ يمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمالِهِ، فَكَانَتْ كَذَلِكَ حتَّى مرَّتْ بِهِمْ رُفْقَةٌ مِنْ جُرْهُمٍ، -أو أَهْلُ بيْتٍ مِنْ جُرْهُمٍ- مُقْبِلين مِنْ طَريقِ كَدَاءَ، فَنَزَلُوا في أَسْفَلِ مَكَةَ، فَرَأَوْا طَائرًا عائفًا فَقَالُوا: إِنَّ هَذا الطَّائِر ليَدُورُ عَلى ماء لَعهْدُنَا بِهذا الوادي وَمَا فِيهِ ماءٌ فَأرسَلُوا جِريًّا أَوْ جَرِيَّيْنِ، فَإِذَا هُمْ بِالماءِ، فَرَجَعُوا فَأَخْبَرُوهم فَأقْبلُوا، وَأُمُّ إِسْماعِيلَ عند الماءَ، فَقَالُوا: أَتَأْذَنِينَ لَنَا أَنْ ننزِلَ عِنْدكَ؟ قَالتْ: نَعَمْ، ولكِنْ لا حَقَّ لَكُم في الماءِ، قَالُوا: نَعَمْ، قَال ابْنُ عبَّاسٍ: قَالَ النَّبِيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «فَأَلْفَى ذٰلكَ أُمَّ إِسماعِيلَ، وَهِي تُحِبُّ الأُنْسَ»، فَنزَلُوا، فَأَرْسلُوا إِلى أَهْلِيهِم فنَزَلُوا معهُم، حتَّى إِذا كَانُوا بِهَا أَهْل أَبياتٍ، وشبَّ الغُلامُ، وتَعلَّم العربِيَّةَ مِنهُمْ وأَنْفَسَهُم وأَعجَبهُمْ حِينَ شَبَّ ، فَلَمَّا أَدْركَ، زَوَّجُوهُ امرأَةً منهُمْ، ومَاتَتْ أُمُّ إِسمَاعِيل، فَجَاءَ إبراهِيمُ بعْد ما تَزَوَّجَ إسماعِيلُ يُطالِعُ تَرِكَتَهُ فَلم يجِدْ إِسْماعِيل، فَسأَل امرأَتَهُ عنه فَقَالت: خَرَجَ يبْتَغِي لَنَا -وفي رِوايةٍ: يصِيدُ لَنَا- ثُمَّ سأَلهَا عنْ عيْشِهِمْ وهَيْئَتِهِم فَقَالَتْ: نَحْنُ بِشَرٍّ، نَحْنُ في ضِيقٍ وشِدَّةٍ، وشَكَتْ إِليْهِ، قَال: فإذا جاءَ زَوْجُكِ، اقْرئي عَلَيْهِ السَّلام، ويقول: غَيِّرْ عَتبةَ بابهِ، فَلَمَّا جاءَ إسْماعيلُ كَأَنَّهُ آنَسَ شَيْئًا فَقَال: هَلْ جاءَكُمْ منْ أَحَدٍ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، جاءَنَا شَيْخٌ كَذا وكَذا، فَسأَلَنَا عنْكَ، فَأخْبَرْتُهُ، فَسألني كَيْف عيْشُنا، فَأخْبرْتُهُ أَنَّا في جَهْدٍ وشِدَّةٍ، قَالَ: فَهَلْ أَوْصاكِ بشَيْءٍ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعمْ أَمَرني أَقْرَأ علَيْكَ السَّلامَ ويَقُولُ: غَيِّرْ عَتبة بابكَ، قَالَ: ذَاكِ أَبي، وقَدْ أَمرني أَنْ أُفَارِقَكِ، الْحَقِي بأَهْلِكِ، فَطَلَّقَهَا، وتَزَوَّج مِنْهُمْ أُخْرى، فلَبِث عَنْهُمْ إِبْراهيم ما شَاءَ اللّه ثُمَّ أَتَاهُم بَعْدُ، فَلَمْ يجدْهُ، فَدَخَل على امْرَأتِهِ، فَسَأَل عنْهُ، قَالَتْ: خَرَج يبْتَغِي لَنَا، قَال: كَيْفَ أَنْتُمْ؟ وسألهَا عنْ عيْشِهِمْ وهَيْئَتِهِمْ فَقَالَتْ: نَحْنُ بِخَيْرٍ وَسعةٍ وأَثْنتْ على اللّهِ تَعالى، فَقَال: ما طَعامُكُمْ؟ قَالَتْ: اللَّحْمُ، قَال: فَما شَرابُكُمْ؟ قَالَتِ: الماءُ؟ قَال: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لهُمْ في اللَّحْم والماءِ، قَال النَّبيُّ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «وَلَمْ يكنْ لهُمْ يوْمَئِذٍ حَبٌّ وَلَوْ كَانَ لهُمْ دَعَا لَهُمْ فيهِ» قَال: فَهُما لا يخْلُو علَيْهِما أَحدٌ بغَيْرِ مكَّةَ إِلّا لَمْ يُوافِقاهُ. وفي روايةٍ فَجاءَ فَقَالَ: أَيْنَ إِسْماعِيلُ؟ فَقَالَتِ امْرأتُهُ: ذَهبَ يَصِيدُ ، فَقَالَتِ امْرأَتُهُ: أَلا تَنْزِلُ، فتَطْعَم وتَشْرَبَ؟ قَالَ: وما طعامُكمْ وما شَرابُكُمْ؟ قَالَتْ: طَعَامُنا اللَّحْـمُ، وشَرابُنَا الماءُ، قَال: اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَهُمْ في طَعامِهمْ وشَرَابِهِمْ قَالَ: فَقَالَ أَبُو القَاسِم صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «بركَةُ دعْوةِ إِبراهِيم صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم» قَالَ: فَإِذا جاءَ زَوْجُكِ، فاقْرئي علَيْهِ السَّلامَ وَمُريهِ يُثَبِّتْ عتَبَةَ بابهِ، فَلَمَّا جاءَ إِسْماعِيلُ، قَال: هَلْ أَتَاكُمْ منْ أَحد؟ قَالتْ: نَعَمْ، أَتَانَا شيْخٌ حَسَن الهَيئَةِ وَأَثْنَتْ عَلَيْهِ، فَسَأَلَني عنْكَ، فَأَخْبرتُهُ، فَسأَلَني كيفَ عَيْشُنَا فَأَخبَرْتُهُ أَنَّا بخَيرٍ، قَالَ: فأَوْصَاكِ بِشَيْءٍ؟ قَالَتْ: نَعَمْ، يَقْرَأُ عَلَيْكَ السَّلامَ، ويأْمُرُكَ أَنْ تُثَبِّتَ عَتَبَة بابكَ، قَالَ: ذَاكِ أَبي وأنتِ الْعَتَبةُ أَمرني أَنْ أُمْسِكَكِ، ثُمَّ لَبِثَ عنْهُمْ ما شَاءَ اللّه، ثُمَّ جَاءَ بعْد ذلكَ وإِسْماعِيلُ يبْرِي نَبْلًا لَهُ تَحْتَ دَوْحةٍ قريبًا مِنْ زَمْزَمَ، فَلَمَّا رآهُ، قَامَ إِلَيْهِ، فَصنعَ كَمَا يصْنَعُ الْوَالِد بِالْولَدُ والولد بالْوالدِ، قَالِ: يا إِسْماعِيلُ إِنَّ اللّه أَمرني بِأَمْرٍ، قَال: فَاصْنَعْ مَا أَمركَ ربُّكَ؟ قَال: وتُعِينُني، قَال: وأُعِينُكَ، قَالَ: فَإِنَّ اللّه أَمرنِي أَنْ أَبْني بيْتًا ههُنَا، وأَشَار إِلى أَكَمَةٍ مُرْتَفِعةٍ على ما حَوْلهَا فَعِنْد ذلك رَفَعَ الْقَوَاعِدَ مِنَ الْبيْتِ، فَجَعَلَ إِسْماعِيل يأتي بِالحِجارَةِ، وَإبْراهِيمُ يبْني حتَّى إِذا ارْتَفَعَ الْبِنَاءُ جَاءَ بِهَذا الحجرِ فَوضَعَهُ لَهُ فقامَ عَلَيْهِ، وَهُو يبْني وإسْمَاعِيلُ يُنَاوِلُهُ الحِجَارَة وَهُما يقُولانِ: ربَّنَا تَقَبَّلْ مِنَّا إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ السَّمِيعُ الْعَلِيمُ. وفي روايةٍ: إِنَّ إبْراهِيم خَرَج بِإِسْماعِيل وأُمِّ إسْمَاعِيل، معَهُم شَنَّةٌ فِيهَا ماءٌ فَجَعلَتْ أُم إِسْماعِيلَ تَشْربُ مِنَ الشَّنَّةِ، فَيَدِرُّ لَبنُهَا على صبِيِّهَا حَتَّى قَدِم مكَّةَ فَوَضَعهَا تَحْتَ دَوْحةٍ، ثُمَّ رَجَع إِبْراهيمُ إِلى أَهْلِهِ، فاتَّبعَتْهُ أُمُّ إِسْمَاعِيلَ حَتَّى لمَّا بلغُوا كَداءَ نادَتْه مِنْ ورائِــه: يَا إِبْرَاهيمُ إِلى منْ تَتْرُكُنَا؟ قَالَ: إِلى اللّهِ، قَالَتْ: رضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ، فَرَجعتْ، وَجعلَتْ تَشْرَبُ مِنَ الشَّنَّةِ، وَيَدرُّ لَبَنُهَا عَلى صَبِيِّهَا حَتَّى لمَّا فَنيَ الماءُ قَالَتْ: لَوْ ذَهبْتُ، فَنَظَرْتُ لعَلِّي أحِسُّ أَحَدًا، قَالَ: فَذَهَبَتْ فصعِدت الصَّفا، فَنَظَرتْ وَنَظَرَتْ هَلْ تُحِسُّ أَحدًا، فَلَمْ تُحِسَّ أحدًا، فَلَمَّا بلَغَتِ الْوادي، سعتْ، وأَتتِ المرْوةَ، وفَعلَتْ ذلكَ أَشْواطًا، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: لو ذهَبْتُ فنَظرْتُ ما فَعلَ الصَّبيُّ، فَذَهَبتْ ونَظَرَتْ، فإِذَا هُوَ على حَالهِ كأَنَّهُ يَنْشَغُ للمَوْتِ، فَلَمْ تُقِرَّهَا نفْسُهَا، فَقَالَت: لَوْ ذَهَبْتُ، فَنَظَرْتُ لعلي أَحِسُّ أَحدًا، فَذَهَبَتْ فصَعِدتِ الصَّفَا، فَنَظَرتْ ونَظَرتْ، فَلَمْ تُحِسَّ أَحَدًا حتَّى أَتمَّتْ سَبْعًا، ثُمَّ قَالَتْ: لَوْ ذَهَبْتُ، فَنَظَرْتُ مَا فَعل، فَإِذا هِيَ بِصوْتٍ فَقَالَتْ: أَغِثْ إِنْ كان عِنْدَكَ خيْرٌ فإِذا جِبْرِيلُ صَلّى اللّهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم  فقَال بِعَقِبهِ هَكَذَا، وغمزَ بِعقِبه عَلى الأرْض، فَانْبثَقَ الماءُ فَدَهِشَتْ أُمُّ إسْماعِيلَ فَجعلَتْ تَحْفِنُ وذكَرَ الحَدِيثَ بِطُولِهِ. رواه البخاري بهذِهِ الرواياتِ كلها.

Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him) brought the mother of Ismail and her son Ismail, while she was nursing him, and settled her by the House, at a large tree above Zamzam, in the upper part of the Mosque. There was no one in Mecca that day, nor was there any water there. He settled the two of them there, and placed beside them a leather bag containing dates and a waterskin containing water. Then Ibrahim turned to depart. The mother of Ismail followed him and said: "O Ibrahim, where are you going, leaving us in this valley where there is no companion and nothing else?" She said that to him several times, but he did not turn to her. She said to him: "Did Allah command you to do this?" He said: "Yes." She said: "Then He will not abandon us." Then she returned. Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him) set off until, when he was at the mountain pass where they could not see him, he turned his face toward the House, then supplicated with these supplications, raising his hands: "Our Lord, I have settled some of my offspring in a valley without cultivation…" until he reached "…that they may be grateful." [Surah Ibrahim: 37] The mother of Ismail began nursing Ismail and drinking from that water, until when what was in the waterskin was exhausted, she and her son grew thirsty. She began looking at him as he writhed—or he said: as he rolled about in distress—so she went off, disliking to look at him. She found al-Safa the nearest hill to her in the land, so she stood upon it, then faced the valley, looking to see whether she could see anyone; but she saw no one. She descended from al-Safa until, when she reached the valley, she lifted the hem of her garment, then ran with the running of one exhausted until she crossed the valley. Then she came to al-Marwah and stood upon it and looked to see whether she could see anyone; but she saw no one. She did that seven times. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That is the running of the people between them." When she reached the top of al-Marwah, she heard a voice, and she said: "Hush!"—meaning herself. Then she listened intently, and heard it again. So she said: "You have made me hear; help, if you have any relief." And there she was with the angel at the place of Zamzam. He dug with his heel—or he said: with his wing—until the water appeared. She began to make a basin around it with her hand, and she was doing thus with her hand, scooping the water into her waterskin, while it gushed up after she scooped—and in another narration: as much as she scooped. Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "May Allah have mercy on the mother of Ismail! Had she left Zamzam"—or he said: "Had she not scooped from the water, Zamzam would have been a flowing spring." He said: So she drank and nursed her child. The angel said to her: "Do not fear abandonment, for here is a House of Allah which this boy and his father will build, and Allah does not abandon His people." The House was raised above the ground like a hillock; the floods would come and pass to its right and its left. She continued thus until a caravan of Jurhum—or a household of Jurhum—passed by them, coming from the direction of Kada'. They halted in the lower part of Mecca, and they saw a bird circling. They said: "This bird must be circling over water; our knowledge of this valley is that it has no water." So they sent one or two messengers, and behold, there was the water. They returned and informed them, and they came. The mother of Ismail was by the water, and they said: "Will you permit us to settle near you?" She said: "Yes, but you have no right to the water." They said: "Agreed." Ibn Abbas said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "That suited the mother of Ismail, for she loved companionship." So they settled, and sent for their families, who settled with them, until they became several households there. The boy grew up and learned Arabic from them, and he became most pleasing and admirable to them as he grew. When he reached maturity, they married him to a woman from among them. The mother of Ismail died. Ibrahim came, after Ismail had married, to visit what he had left behind, but he did not find Ismail. He asked his wife about him, and she said: "He has gone out seeking provision for us"—in another narration: "hunting for us." Then he asked her about their living and their condition, and she said: "We are in hardship; we are in straitness and difficulty," and she complained to him. He said: "When your husband comes, convey to him my greeting of peace and tell him to change the threshold of his door." When Ismail came, it was as though he sensed something. He said: "Did anyone come to you?" She said: "Yes, an old man of such-and-such description came to us and asked about you, and I told him; and he asked me how our living was, and I told him we were in hardship and difficulty." He said: "Did he enjoin anything upon you?" She said: "Yes, he commanded me to convey to you his greeting of peace, and he says: change the threshold of your door." He said: "That was my father, and he has commanded me to part with you. Return to your family." So he divorced her and married another from among them. Ibrahim stayed away from them as long as Allah willed, then came to them afterward, but did not find him. He entered upon his wife and asked about him. She said: "He has gone out seeking provision for us." He said: "How are you?" and he asked her about their living and condition. She said: "We are well and in ease," and she praised Allah the Exalted. He said: "What is your food?" She said: "Meat." He said: "What is your drink?" She said: "Water." He said: "O Allah, bless for them the meat and the water." The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "They had no grain that day; had they had grain, he would have supplicated for them regarding it as well." He said: So these two (meat and water) are such that no one relies upon them alone, apart from the people of Mecca, without their disagreeing with him. In another narration: He came and said: "Where is Ismail?" His wife said: "He has gone hunting." His wife said: "Will you not alight and eat and drink?" He said: "What is your food and what is your drink?" She said: "Our food is meat and our drink is water." He said: "O Allah, bless for them their food and their drink." He (the narrator) said: Abu al-Qasim (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "This is the blessing of the supplication of Ibrahim (peace and blessings be upon him)." He said: "When your husband comes, convey to him my greeting of peace and command him to keep firm the threshold of his door." When Ismail came, he said: "Did anyone come to you?" She said: "Yes, a handsome old man came to us"—and she praised him—"and he asked about you, and I told him; and he asked me how our living was, and I told him we were well." He said: "Did he enjoin anything upon you?" She said: "Yes, he conveys to you his greeting of peace and commands you to keep firm the threshold of your door." He said: "That was my father, and you are the threshold; he commanded me to keep you." Then he stayed away from them as long as Allah willed, then came after that while Ismail was shaping arrows for himself beneath a large tree near Zamzam. When he saw him, he rose to him, and they did as a father does with a son and a son with a father. He said: "O Ismail, Allah has commanded me with a command." He said: "Do what your Lord has commanded you." He said: "Will you help me?" He said: "I will help you." He said: "Allah has commanded me to build a House here"—and he pointed to a mound higher than what was around it. At that they raised the foundations of the House. Ismail began bringing the stones and Ibrahim building, until when the structure grew high, he brought this stone and set it down for him, and he stood upon it and built, with Ismail handing him the stones, and the two of them saying: "Our Lord, accept from us; indeed You are the All-Hearing, the All-Knowing." In another narration: Ibrahim went out with Ismail and the mother of Ismail, and with them was a waterskin containing water. The mother of Ismail began to drink from the waterskin, and her milk would flow for her child, until he reached Mecca. He placed her beneath a large tree, then Ibrahim returned to his family. The mother of Ismail followed him until, when they reached Kada', she called to him from behind him: "O Ibrahim, to whom are you leaving us?" He said: "To Allah." She said: "I am content with Allah." So she returned, and began to drink from the waterskin, and her milk would flow for her child, until when the water was exhausted she said: "If I went and looked, perhaps I might sense someone." She said: So she went and climbed al-Safa and looked and looked to see whether she could sense anyone, but she sensed no one. When she reached the valley, she ran, and came to al-Marwah, and did that for several rounds. Then she said: "If I went and looked at what the child has done." So she went and looked, and there he was in his state, as though gasping in death. But her soul would not settle, and she said: "If I went and looked, perhaps I might sense someone." So she went and climbed al-Safa and looked and looked, but sensed no one, until she completed seven times. Then she said: "If I went and looked at what he has done." And there she was with a voice, and she said: "Help, if you have any good." And behold, it was Jibril (peace and blessings be upon him). He did with his heel thus, and pressed with his heel upon the ground, and the water burst forth.
