عنْ أَبي هُريْرة رضِي اللّه عنْهُ قَال: قَال رسُولُ اللّهِ صَلّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وسَلَّم: «والَّذي نَفْسِي بِيدِهِ لَوْ لَمْ تُذْنِبُوا، لَذَهَب اللّه تَعَالى بِكُمْ، ولجاءَ بقَوْمٍ يُذْنِبُونَ فَيَسْتَغْفِرُونَ اللّه تَعالى فَيغْفِرُ لهمْ» رواه مسلم .
Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "By Him in whose hand is my soul, if you did not sin, Allah the Exalted would take you away and bring a people who sin and then seek Allah's forgiveness, and He would forgive them." Reported by Muslim.
الشرح · explanation
والذي نفسي بيده: كان النبيّ صلّى اللّه عليه وسلّم يكثر من هذا القسم تعظيمًا للّه وتأكيدًا على عبوديّته للّه تعالى.
"By Him in whose hand is my soul": the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would frequently use this oath, in glorification of Allah and in affirmation of his servitude to Allah the Exalted.

The encouragement to repent and desist from sin. Seeking forgiveness and turning to Allah the Exalted is the concern of every Muslim, so let him hasten to it, for it is a bond between the servant and his Lord.
