Riyad Al Salihin

Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: "The first group to enter Paradise will be in the form of the moon on the night of the full moon; then those who follow them will be like the most brilliantly shining star in the sky. They will not urinate, nor defecate, nor spit, nor blow their noses. Their combs will be of gold, their sweat will be musk, and in their censers will be aloeswood, the wood of fragrance. Their wives will be the wide-eyed houris. [They will be] upon the form of one man, upon the form of their father Adam, sixty cubits tall in the sky." Agreed upon (al-Bukhari and Muslim). In a narration of al-Bukhari and Muslim: "Their vessels therein will be of gold, their sweat will be musk, and each one of them will have two wives, the marrow of whose shins can be seen through the flesh out of [their] beauty. There will be no discord among them and no mutual hatred: their hearts will be as the heart of one man, glorifying Allah morning and evening." His statement "upon the form of one man" — some narrated it with a fatha on the kha and a sukun on the lam (khalq), and some with a damma on both (khuluq), and both are correct.

"A group": a company. "The night of the full moon": that is, the night of the fourteenth; what is meant is likening them to the moon when it becomes full, in radiance and brightness. "A brilliantly shining star": the intensely luminous star. "They will not spit": they will not expectorate. "Their censers": these are the incense burners, so named because coals (jamr) are placed in them. "Aloeswood": the wood placed in the censer to produce fragrant smoke. "Their sweat": that is, the perspiration that exudes from their bodies. "The marrow of their shins": the marrow is what is inside the bone, and what is meant is describing them with utmost purity [of complexion]; and "shins" (suq) is the plural of shin (saq), which extends from the foot to the knee.

The negation of all attributes of deficiency from the people of Paradise. The bliss of the people of Paradise — food, drink, clothing, and fragrance — is not [prompted] by any pain of hunger, thirst, nakedness, or foul odor; rather, they are successive delights and continuous blessings. The enjoyment of the people of Paradise is in the manner of the enjoyment of the people of this world, except for the difference between them in [degree of] pleasure; and the Book and the Sunnah have indicated that it is a bliss without end. There is no mutual envy among the people of Paradise and no discord, because their hearts have been purified of blameworthy traits.
